The Ukraine Crisis

Over the past few months we, along with much of the world, have been watching the events unfolding in Ukraine with horror. The Russian invasion of the Ukraine has resulted in more than 91,000 displaced children, a large number of whom remain within conflict areas.

Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA) is a member of an international organisation called the International Federation of Settlements (IFS) that represent the neighbourhood and community house sector on a global scale. The IFS have been coordinating the international sector to deliver appropriate, timely and targeted assistance to Ukrainian refugees, Some members in Hungary and Romania have already opened their doors to support the millions of Ukrainian refugees. For the international community the IFS has put out a call for counsellors, youth workers and psychologists around the world, to provide remote assistance and services to children via the Association of Youth Centres of Ukraine. Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (NHVic) and Local Community Services Association (LCSA) have put forward Ben Mahoney, the lead Psychologist at Supported Pathways, and Chris Boris, who is a Senior Supporting Psychologist at Counselling Services Inc, respectively to facilitate this call out on behalf of the Australian sector.

Additionally, we are excited to announce that the IFS is running a number of summer camps for kids in May, for 2 weeks for 40 kids and as such, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria have pledged $5,000 to cover the costs of the first camp.

Donate to the IFS to assist them in their efforts to support the millions of Ukrainian refugees
